Rarawai Muslim School first opened it's door to students in January 1962. Before that the students who came here went to Vaqia Indian School. The Muslim Parents wished Urdu to be taught to their children but the Education Department did not allow for two languages after English to be taught in any school at that time Under the leadership of one Mr Nazir Mohammed as president and Mohammed Afzal as secretary the school committee embarked to fund raising and the result was the opening of a three classroom building with a teachers quarters behind it. Mr Mohammed Ali was the first Head Teacher. Before coming here he was at St Thereas. The first Urdu maulvi was a young person and not a qualified teacher but the parents were happy. Two or three Hindu parents also sent their children here but they numbered less than five. MTKHan a lawyer in Ba had some role to play too. The Fiji Muslim League had their Annual General Meeting here and were so impressed that they voted this school one of their best. The first year saw a good many passes in the high school entrance exams. One of the star students was Taz Mohammed, son of Mohammed Ismail who went on to do well in high school. Mrs Adam also taugh here for a year or two.
