History of Deenbandhoo Memorial School

In 1930 the Indian Association of Fiji was formed by a group of prominent Indian Citizen of Fiji. Mr A.D Patel, B.A, Bar at Law was its first President and honourable Vishnu Deo , O.B.E was the general secretary.

Deenbandhoo Memorial School began functioning in the Indian reform league hall in Toorak, in 1951. The Indian Association of Fiji obtained an ideal site in Bainiwai road and built this magnificient primary school.

Mr. W.W Lewis - Jones , than Director of education laid the foundation stone of the primary school building in August ,1956 and the school began functioning in its new premisies in 1957.

another wing consisting of seven classrooms was built in 1961. this wing was opened by Mr. Ganju, the then commissioner of Government of Indian in Fiji.

The whole school area is about 7 hectares. this includes the Jai Narayan College as well. the school has a very ideal site . it has roads on all its peripheral boundaries. the hospital and the greater area is within the reach of the people.
